GOOP by Gwyneth Paltrow

Sprout Wellness - as seen in this week's edition of GOOP - Gwyneth Paltrow's newsletter

I just heard about this small, Brooklyn-based company that is only 1 year old and got so excited about what they do. Everything owner and founder Adina (Grigore) makes is completely natural and is made up of ingredients that you can find at the supermarket (or rather, the organic green market). It’s the way it should be, made once a week in small batches, using glass jars and supporting local, sustainable farms.

Just to prove how home-made these products are, here’s a recipe Sprout gave us for their Sugar Body Scrub that you can make at home:

  • 1 cup organic demerara sugar (or any other coarse sugar will work)
  • 1-2 tsp organic unrefined coconut oil
  • 2 tsp organic shredded coconut
Mix shredded coconut and sugar in a small bowl, stir until blended. Heat coconut oil in a small pot just until melted. Pour coconut oil over sugar and shredded coconut, you'll notice it liquefies some of the sugar. With a fork or spoon, stir oil into the sugar mixture. It will start to spread. Continue until the sugar is all one consistency.

To use: Apply a small amount to areas you want to exfoliate and moisturize.

Give at Work for Habitat for Humanity: Get A Jeans Pass

Want to spread the mission of Habitat for Humanity to your entire organization? How about a Habitat Jeans Day? Just obtain leadership permission to hold a Habitat for Humanity Jeans Day (or week) in your office where employees are granted permission to wear jeans if they purchase a special Habitat for Humanity Jeans Pass. Or maybe employees can wear tool belts, hard hats, or other construction garb to work?

Step 1: Market the upcoming Jeans Day to employees well in advance. Stickers like the one shown are available at the Habitat for Humanity South PBC office (181 SE 5th Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33483, Ph: 561-819-6070)
.
Step 2: Set up a table in the office lobby and recruit volunteers to take shifts selling jeans passes and charge employees $5 per day for a jeans pass.

Step 3: Turn in your donations towards home construction to our Habitat for Humanity office.

Headed to "Strategic Planning 10-10-10" class

“We all have a responsibility for our personal actions, but what about our business decisions. How far out in time could and should these decisions affect us? Jane Walsh in her book “10-10-10” suggest we look at 10 weeks, 10 months, even 10 years. Ted Kramer explores this concept and discusses how this thinking applies to start-up companies, more established firms, and yes, Your Company. Explore decisions, and their consequences - positive and negative. See if this strategy can work for you. We’ll have a drawing for a free copy of the book.” Speaker: Ted Kramer, Certified Business Analyst, Florida SBDC Network

April 12th, 2011- The Boca Raton Community High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) Bobcat Battalion, led by Lieutenant Commander Kenneth A. Bingham and Chief Petty Officer Edwin A. Morales, took first place at the National Academic, Athletic, and Drill championships at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida on the 8th and 9th of April, 2011.  They competed in Personnel Inspection, Color Guard, Pushups, Situps, 100 Yard Relay, 220 Yard Relay, Unarmed Basic and Exhibition Drills, Armed Basic and Exhibition Drills, and Academics.

The Battalion leadership, led by Cadet Commander Austin Haynie, Cadet Commander Krystal Echeverry, and Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer Jordan Hamilton, were confident in the level of readiness that the Battalion had achieved.  The Boca Raton NJROTC went up against 25 other schools from across the entire nation who were competing for the same goal.  Going into the competition as State champions added another sense of confidence to the Bobcat Battalion

The team took a first place in Personnel Inspection, a third place in Academics, a second place in Overall Drill, a seventh place in Pushups, and an eighth place in Situps.  The points that were collected from these awards gave them first place in the nation.  The Boca Raton NJROTC plans on coming back next year to defend the national title.
